LAHUG: THE HOME OF MIRTHFULNESS

HISTORY

     Lahug is an area that once covered by a vast expanse of towering trees which covered hundreds of hectares within the span of a lifetime, however, it has metaphor into an upper class suburban area. In the 1950's, an intervening businessman built a fashionable and classy residential district or suburban housing development project that had come to mean the ultimate modern living and became known as "The Beverly Hills of Cebu".
      The airport was once in Lahug that made Cebu to be linked to Manila and other cities and provinces within the archipelago but it was being transferred to Mactan Island where there is a bigger airstrip and to lessen the danger of airplanes crashes since Lahug Airport was near to downtown Cebu. However, it was urained an alternate landing area for the Mactan international Airport.
      When it was forestland, insurrectors used to sank refuge in the numerous files of heavily-foliated trees. The Spaniards could not penetrate the nearly inaccessible paths of the jungles. But the natives could easily weave in and out of the way (Lahug-Lahug in Cebuano). This forest came to be known as Lahug-lahug and the people used to short terms, in time came to be known as LAHUG.

THE MODERN LAHUG

      Lahug is the second largest barangay within the Cebu City. In fact, it is the home of one of the most popular hotel chain in the world, THE WATERFRONT HOTEL. Furthermore, it also became a home of many investments and businesses that continually invested. There were new hotels, restaurants, fastfood chains, and in fact, the newly opened LDS TEMPLE which  became an excellent tourist spot in Lahug.
     Due to this good fortune, it cannot be denied that Lahug is already been part of the economic and social cycle of Cebu City and of the world.

THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST 
OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS


     The CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS is located in Salinas Drive, Lahug, Cebu City, was the second temple built in the Philippines, following the Manila Philippines Temple (1984). It was announced in a letter to Filipino priesthood leaders dated April 18, 2006. The gold-leafed statue of the angel Moroni was placed atop the Cebu City Philippines Temple on November 5, 2009.
     The temple was built on an 11-acre (4.5 ha) site that it shares with a church meetinghouse, residences for the temple president and mission president and a mission office.
